CANNES: Best Selling Mature YA novel AFTER is Going to the Big Screen

Cannes, France (May 8, 2018) – Julia Goldani Telles (Showtime’s The Affair, Slenderman) and Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) are set to star in director Jenny Gage’s film adaptation of Anna Todd’s international best-selling mature YA novel After for powerhouse producers Mark Canton (Den of Thieves, 300) and Courtney Solomon (Cake, An American Haunting) of CalMaple Films, and Jennifer Gibgot (17 Again, Step Up) of Offspring Entertainment. CalMaple, Voltage Pictures and Diamond Film Productions are financing the film.

Wattpad’s Aron Levitz, Anna Todd, and Dennis Pelino from CalMaple are also producing. Meadow Williams and Swen Temmel from Diamond Films will serve as executive producers along with Adam Shankman of Offspring Entertainment, Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Jonathan Deckter, CalMaple’s Scott Karol, and Wattpad’s Eric Lehrman.

Voltage is handling the worldwide rights for After, which is anticipated as a franchise property, co-repping domestic with producer Courtney Solomon’s CalMaple.

After follows the journey of self-discovery and sexual awakening of Tessa (Julia Goldani Telles).  A dedicated student, dutiful daughter and loyal girlfriend to her high school sweetheart, Tessa enters her first year of University with grand ambitions for her future.  Her guarded world opens up when she meets the dark and mysterious Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin).  A brooding rebel that Tessa would typically shun, she is drawn by his magnetic energy that will change her forever.

CalMaple’s Solomon said: “When Mark and I read the script and then Anna’s book, we were super-excited to be involved with bringing this current and timeless story of first love to life.  Jenny Gage has an amazing sensibility and vision for this film and the collaboration with her, Jennifer Gibgot and Anna Todd is going to make a unique, edgy and powerful film”.

Four years ago, Anna Todd, a then unknown author, posted chapters of the first book in her After series to the fan fiction sharing site Wattpad. The work became so popular that the intense demand crashed the site within a week. Today Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, has published five books in the series. The series has sold tens of millions of copies in over 40 countries worldwide.

In addition, the novels have been read more than 1.5 billion times on the Wattpad site, where they were launched in the same way as E.L James’ 50 Shades of Grey. Todd’s first book After has reached 456 million reads on Wattpad, After 2 has 390 million reads, while After 3 has an incredible 685 million reads on the online publishing platform.
