Actress Amy Smart (Crank 1&2, Varsity Blues) joins the cast of the terrifying and unique short horror film “The Visitant.” Working alongside legendary creature actor, Doug Jones (Hellboy 1&2, Pan’s Labyrinth), Smart will showcase both her strength and vulnerability to play the lead role of a mother fighting to protect her children from a demon intruder in her house. “Amy is a tremendous talent that can truly captivate and rally and audience,” says writer/director Nick Peterson, “making her a perfect choice for this compact, character-driven short film.”

After successfully funding and producing the ambitious short film, DRAINED, actor Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory) and writer/director Nick Peterson (MuM, Dark Mind) return to Kickstarter to raise funds for “The Visitant,” an edge-of-your seat short film and a RPG video game. “Kickstarter can be a place for both big and small films to get funded by involving people who don’t locally have access to film production but want to get involved, or learn how things are done outside of the textbook,” offers Peterson. “We’ll be doing exclusive Google Hangouts for contributors at each phase of the production. That way if they want to learn about the realities of the film process they can join in and ask us directly,” Heder adds.

Set in modern days, the short film is the gripping tale of a mother who protects her children from a demon intruder in her home. Smart will play the mother and the demon will be designed and created by veteran creature creator Steve Wang (Hellboy 1&2, Predator) and given life by legendary creature actor Jones. Extending the entertainment experience and complimenting the short film, the video game will transport gamers to the 1930s dustbowl where they’ll discover the origin of the demon as they make a series of important moral choices.

“I love the horror genre,” comments Heder. “As a fan, filmmaker and gamer, I am thrilled be a part of this project and can’t wait to see Steve and Doug translate Nick’s dark ideas into a terrifying reality.”
