Life's Passing Me By

In June I had the opportunity to speak with Mark Cabaroy and his editor and producer at the Staten Island New York Film Festival where his movie “Life’s Passing Me By” played. Below is the footage from that interview! The review of his film is below!

Mark Cabaroy creates a realistic look at modern inter-personal interaction in society with his comedy/drama “Life’s Passing Me By”. He creates believable characters with as much richness and fullness as any real person that we might know. The story of this movie revolves around a young woman named Dora (Paula Wilson) who has the ability to give good advice to people (we all have that friend, or ARE that friend who everyone comes to for advice whether we want to give it to them or not). Like most people who are good at giving advice, she has a hard time dishing it out for herself. She has family issues that the audience can easily empathize with, and relationship issues that we have all had.

One of the great things about this movie is the attention to detail in the writing. Mark also wrote a screenplay that feels very true to how most people speak. This is very remarkable since the better part of his cast happens to be women, and generally a man writing a woman’s part rarely feels right. The movie itself somewhat feels like two separate movies. The first movie dealing with Dora’s family issues and the reconnection with her sister after a long spat, and the second part about Dora’s struggle with her gabby gift and how best to use it.

The music in this movie shines as well. It mixes a great bit of Motown along with the contemporary score that the movie is set in. Also be on the lookout for an awesome karaoke scene involving Dora, her sister, and he Caucasian father (played by Clyde Baldo). Hilarous and heartwarming all at the same time. Which also pretty much explains most of the movie.
