Revelation Perth International Film Festival has announced its highly anticipated 2012 program, which promises to be its most exciting and audacious yet, showing nightly from 5 to 15 July 2012 at The Astor Theatre in Perth, Western Australia.
The 15th annual Festival will also play host to iconic Hollywood actor, director and screenwriter of contemporary cinema, Crispin Hellion Glover (BACK TO THE FUTURE, CHARLIE’S ANGELES, THE PEOPLE VS LARRY FLYNT, THE DOORS) who will be flying in to Perth to attend the Festival as a featured international guest.
Glover, 48, is a legend of contemporary cinema, having appeared in some of the most important independent and Hollywood movies of the last three decades. Joining Glover will be iconic Australian comedienne, Judith Lucy as Revelation’s inaugural Patron alongside national and international filmmakers, musicians, screen artists, academics and distributors.
Revelation is Perth’s leading international film festival and Western Australia’s major annual screen culture event, which has firmly established itself as Australia’s filmmakers’ festival. It is dedicated to presenting independent cinema from around the globe in a context that explores film’s great traditions, its contemporary movements and its future directions.
Curated for the fifth year by writer, academic and cineaste Jack Sargeant, the Revelation program expands its scope across the independent film spectrum boasting a record number of Australian and
World Premieres, an outstanding group of over 30 Australian and international guests, animation from sixteen countries, free industry panel discussions, workshops and Australia’s only academic
conference associated with a film festival.
“Every year at Revelation promises something new and exciting, and of course this year is no exception. We’re showcasing more World and Australian premieres and bringing more cutting-edge documentaries and features to Australia, as well as some great special guests, live music and so on. In terms of locally produced content, the standard of the Australian works is great, with both documentaries and features scheduled that show the depth and style of the local independent film community. Once again our commitment to unique and signature driven works means that there’s numerous voices being heard here that rarely get a look in elsewhere, and that increasingly makes people look to Revelation to see what’s happening in the world of independent cinema. That said, we’re also screening more familiar works, even an Oscar winner, so we’ve really got something for everybody.” said Sargeant.
Revelation’s RevCon will explore all aspects of film across two days through a series of talks, panels and workshops at the inaugural RevCon Academic conference, which will be a critical platform unique to any Australian film festival, featuring national and international delegates.
“The 2012 event captures a real sense of urgency in the international creative community. You’d have to say 2012 is ‘the year of documentary’ which suits us just fine and we’ve got of the best produced from around the globe”. said festival founder and Chairman Richard Sowada.
Highlights of Revelation 2012 will also include over 40 industry guests and speakers, industry seminars and masterclasses, a live musical performance accompanying cinematic treasures from film pioneer George Melies, ScreenWest’s annual showcase of emerging WA filmmaking talent in Get Your Shorts On!, the Revel-8 super 8 short film festival; Davy Chou’s acclaimed Berlin Film Festival official selection Golden Slumbers; and the return of Revelation’s hugely popular Animation Showcase.
Revelation is proudly supported by the Australian and West Australian governments through ScreenWest, Eventscorp and Screen Australia.
