Oh, hi. Thanks for coming to my super awesome blowout party extravaganza celebrating my column, Down In Front, turning one year old today.
There is your standard drive in movie type fare over to your left. Popcorn, nachos, hamburgers, and the typical assortment of things fried heavily in grease. You will also find soda, candy, and ice cream.
For folks who prefer a lighter fare, to the right you will find a fresh fruit and salad bar. It also contains many juices to choose from as well as water and vegan options.
Dessert, of course, will be the fantastic cake shaped like a drive in with a classic car in front of the screen.
Our first feature will be Drive In Movie Memories, which is an hour long documentary style film starring the great Leonard Maltin. There is a plethora of historic information packed into this 58 minute feature.
Click here to watch a short clip from the documentary.
And now, a a short intermission……
Our next fea….Excuse me. Sir..?…Sir?
HEY, YOU! DOWN IN FRONT! YEAH YOU WITH THE BALLOONS,YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO MOVE! WE ARE ALL TRYING TO WATCH THE MOVIE HERE!
Right. So our last feature is an ongoing project that is close to my heart and while it is not quite finished yet, the progress so far is phenomenal. Going Attractions highlights the beginning, the heyday, the sad demise and the glorious rebirth of drive in movie theaters across America. They have traveled to over 400 open, closed, or abandoned drive in theaters and documented all of it. I am eagerly awaiting its release!
And here we have come to the end of our viewing party. Grab a piece of cake, mingle, have fun.
I would like to thank all of you for reading, for the amazing support you have given me from the beginning, and of course Nic for this amazing opportunity. I have learned so much and have truly enjoyed writing this column and hope to branch out into different types of theaters in the future!
Don’t forget your better than the Oscars goodie bag and a copy of the very first Down In Front column on your way out!
