Anton and STXinternational Board Neill Blomkamp’s Disaster Thriller GREENLAND
CHRIS EVANS TO STAR
Anton to Produce Alongside Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk
CANNES, FRANCE (May 13, 2018) — Chris Evans (The Avengers, Captain America franchises) will lead block-buster director Neill Blomkamp’s (Elysium, District 9) next film, Greenland, about one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster.
Greenland is produced by Thunder Road Picture’s Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, John Wick, The Town). Anton is co-financing with Riverstone Pictures. Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and Harold van Lier are executive producing with Riverstone’s Nik Bower and Deepak Nayar. CAA Media Finance arranged the film’s financing and will represent the project’s domestic rights alongside Endeavor Content. Anton is fast emerging as a major industry player having already introduced the $40m Fireheart to buyers at Cannes.
Thunder Road developed the picture with Riverstone and UK financier Ingenious Media.
STXinternational, a division of STX Entertainment, is handling international distribution for the highly anticipated film as well as directly distributing the film in the UK and Ireland. The company will present the project to buyers at the Marche du Film.
“When we read Greenland, we knew it was exactly the sort of film we wanted to make as we build the Anton brand – smart, character-driven genre with action and heart. We are very excited to work alongside our friends at STX with such exceptional talent as Neill Blomkamp, Chris Evans, and Basil Iwanyk,” said Sébastien Raybaud, CEO of Anton.
“Greenland is the kind of highly commercial genre fare that sees Neill Blomkamp doing what he does best: delivering a smart, fresh, high concept narrative in a world we can easily recognize,” said David Kosse, President of STXinternational. “We were immediately attracted to this talent-driven, wide release, theatrical title that is so distinctive of the STX brand. Working alongside Neill, Thunder Road, Riverstone and Anton to bring this to the marketplace is a tremendous opportunity.”
Neill Blomkamp shot to international acclaim as the co-writer and director of the critically lauded and financially successful science fiction film District 9, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. His following films Elysium starring Matt Damon and Chappie starring Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel made over $388 million cumulatively at the worldwide box-office.
Chris Evans became an international superstar as Marvel Comics’ Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the three Evans-led Captain America films grossing over $2 billion worldwide. Expanding his creative range, Evans made his directorial debut with the drama film Before We Go released by Radius. He is upcoming in Gideon Raff’s The Red Sea Diving Resort, also represented by STXinternational, and is currently on Broadway in Lobby Hero where he has garnered universal critical acclaim.
Since its launch in 2016 Kosse, has crafted a formidable slate that includes the upcoming productions Mile 22 from director Peter Berg starring Mark Wahlberg, Adrift starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin (also co-financed by Ingenious) and The Happytime Murders starring Melissa McCarthy. The company’s dynamic slate also includes Peppermint starring Jennifer Garner, Second Act starring Jennifer Lopez and Vanessa Hudgens and the highly anticipated animated feature Uglydolls from director Kelly Asbury, featuring the voice of Pitbull.
Kosse continued, “The recent reaction at Cinemacon to our current slate was a wonderful validation of the choices we make when investing in our films and filmmakers. There are only a handful of truly great films available for the international marketplace and STX is consistently managing to be a destination company for those films – both our own in-house productions and titles we represent. We came away from Cannes last year handling one of the most valuable titles in All the Money in the World and this year is looking equally rewarding.”
Evans is repped by CAA, 3 Arts Entertainment, Narrative PR and attorney Jason Sloane. Blomkamp is repped by WME and Gendler & Kelly.
Principal photography is set for Q4 2018.
