Lon Chaney started it all in 1941 with Universal’s original The Wolfman. Since then, lycanthropes (that’s a fancy term for werewolves) have terrorized the silver screen as one of horrors most enduring icons. The list of furry terrors through the years include some of the hairiest, scariest, most awesome films of all time: The Howling, An American Werewolf in London, Underworld, Wolf, Ginger Snaps, and the most frightening of them all, Teen Wolf.

The fur will definitely fly in today’s Challenge as we pit the Twilight sequel New Moon against Benicio Del Toro’s update to The Wolfman.

Challenger 1: The Wolfman

Why The Wolfman should win:

Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving. Twilight can keep its pretty boys, the cast of The Wolfman can actually act.

Del Toro’s werewolf looks like it would rip your throat out. Twilight’s werewolf just makes you want to pet it and smack it on the nose with a newspaper when it poops on the rug.

Del Toro is the second coolest, most intense mofo on the planet, and it’s only a matter of time before Clint Eastwood dies and hands over the title.

The Wolfman is an actual horror movie, not The OC with fangs. Twilight may have the screaming fans, but The Wolfman will leave its fans screaming.

Twisted, painful transformation scenes. Bones breaking and reforming. It’s riveting. It’s horrifying. In Twilight, when you want to become a werewolf, you just kind of “FWOOF” and you’re a wolf. *yawn*

Why Twilight: New Moon should win:

There’s no hotter property on the planet. Even Harry Potter loses its magic in comparison.

If you add up the ages of every cast member, plus the crew, publicity department, and every fan on Twilight’s Facebook page, they’re still younger than Anthony Hopkins.
