summerlogo-300x168Day 3 brings us a film by former music video director Spike Jonze. “Adaptation” stars Nicolas Cage doing double duty as the Kaufman brothers Donald and Charlie. This movie is a mix of genres, sometimes falling into satire, flirting with drama, but mostly staying in the realm of thriller. An interesting fact is that while Charlie Kaufman is real (his other credits include his only director’s credit for “Synecdoche, New York”, and several producer and writer credits including “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Being John Malkovich”).

Crackle.Com Fact – The rare ghost Orchid of the movie does indeed exist, thought it rarely blooms more than two years in a row. Just this year at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida the orchid bloomed for an inprecedented third year in a row, just a few weeks ago, according to the Miami Herald.

I enjoyed this movie immensely, just like I’ve enjoyed much of the reclusive Kaufman’s work. Spike Jones’ direction is spot on and between him and Cage, we really believe that there are two Kaufman brothers interacting with each other. Also bonus point from The Film Snob for awesome use of The Turtles “Happy Together” song in the movie. Great co-stars in this movie as well; Tilda Swinton and Meryl Streep are a little underused and forgettable in their roles, but this movie certainly didn’t hurt their careers any. I’m looking forward to Jones next much criticized movie adaptation of the children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are” that’s coming soon!
